Once you have your fresh fish in hand, stroll a few blocks over to the Mercado Municipal (Municipal Market) for the rest of your ingredients. Here under one big, noisy, colorful, delightful roof you can find nearly anything you can imagine. From fresh this morning meats and cheeses to a dazzling array of fruits and vegetables (sometimes leaving you wondering “What is that?”). The mercado is an experience not to be missed and a true local tradition. Also be sure to visit the Artists Market to pick up souvenirs for your friends and family. Stop in one of the many silver boutiques featuring hand crafted silver jewelry from local artisans. There are traditional Mexican style clothing stores and hand made sandals favored by the local campesinos (farmers). By the time you’ve finished you may find you need a cup of iced coffee made from local grown beans, and don’t forget to grab a bag to take home as well...
